Please sign in to see more. Our grandfather Reverend Dr. Frank Marston, born July 5,1889 in Broughton, Salford, Lancashire,England, immigrated from Manchester, England. He left the Port of Liverpool, England on December 24,1912 and arrived January 3,1913 to Ellis Island, the Port of New York on a ship named the "Laurentic". His age was 23. The ship manifest said he was headed to Garrett Theological Institute in Evanston, Illinois. He studied Law at the Hamilton College of Law, Chicago, Illinois, but after getting his Law degree, he turned to the Ministry and studied at Garrett Theological Seminary, and became a Methodist Minister.
His ministry started, while still a student, at a new Methodist Episcopal Church in Garden Prairie, Boone, Illinois in 1915. He received a teachers certificate in June 1915 and taught school and later became Principal at Nauvoo High School in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois. He then moved to Hamilton, Hancock, Illinois as Pastor for the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1916.
He married Mildred Cemetta Wainwright, on October 9,1917 in Knoxville, Knox, Illinois. She was born September 6,1887 in Chestnut Township, Knox, Illinois. For eight years he was pastor at Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, in Bloomington, McLean, Illinois.
He furthered his education in Europe in travel and special study of youth movements in: Berlin, Germany; Paris, France; Geneva, Switzerland; and London and Manchester, England.
Frank was the recipient of two honorary degrees: the Doctor of Divinity from Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, Illinois and the Doctor of Humane Letters from Illinois College, Jacksonville, Illinois.
Frank was a 32nd degree Mason and a past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star. He spent 18 years in ministry at Grace Methodist Church, Jacksonville, Illinois, before retirement in June of 1962. After retirement from Grace Methodist Church, he was called to serve as interim minister of the First Presbyterian Church in Carrollton, Illinois until his death.
Mildred died May 20,1969 and Frank died January 8,1970, both in Jacksonville, Morgan, Illinois. They are both buried in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Jacksonville, Morgan, Illinois.
